My wife and I recently Netflixed the film Helvetica, which is a history and analysis of the font. It's a fascinating watch, and it confirms something about human nature that I've long suspected.
Every day our digital horizons are expanded by the ever-quickening evolution of software. The result, of course, is that more possibilities come to light in terms of DIY, fonts, and design options in general. The more quickly these changes happen, the more we as creative beings long for simplicity.
Helvetica provides that simplicity, and a dose of cosmopolitan sleek. Designers since the 50s have returned again and again to its saving grace.
It's the simple things in life.
